Heat Pumps
Phoenix winters are mild enough that a heat pump is simply a better air conditioner that also heats. The case here is stronger than almost anywhere in the country.

We check whether ducted or ductless fits the house
A ducted heat pump replaces the whole system. A ductless head solves one stubborn room for a fraction of that. Recommending the big one when the small one would do is the most common way people get oversold in this trade.

We size for cooling, then check heating
In this climate cooling is the governing load — the heating requirement is comfortably covered by anything sized for a Phoenix July. That is exactly why heat pumps make sense here and are a harder argument in Minnesota.

We set the changeover properly
Auxiliary heat should be locked out except when it is genuinely needed. Left at the factory default it engages far more often than this climate warrants, and it is the most expensive way to make heat.

Will a heat pump keep the house warm in a Phoenix winter?
Comfortably. Design lows here sit well above the point where a modern heat pump loses capacity — the equipment is working at the easy end of its range all winter.
Is it cheaper to run than gas?
Usually here, but it depends on your electricity plan and current gas rate, so it is an arithmetic question rather than a belief one. We will do the sum against your actual bill and tell you if the answer is no.
