AC Repair

When to call
What it looks like from your side.
- Air coming out of the vents that is cool but never quite cold
- The system running continuously and never reaching the setpoint
- Ice on the refrigerant line at the indoor unit — switch it off before you call
- A breaker that trips when the compressor starts
- Water around the air handler, or a ceiling stain under it

We measure before we guess
Superheat and subcooling, static pressure, temperature split across the coil, and amp draw at the compressor. Those five numbers separate a low charge from a failing compressor from a duct problem, and no amount of looking at the unit does.

We find out why it lost charge
Refrigerant is not consumed. If a system is low, it leaked, and topping it up without finding the leak means you pay for the same gas again next summer. We locate it and quote the repair against the age of the system.

We tell you when repair stops making sense
A compressor on a fifteen-year-old R-410A system is most of the cost of a new system with none of the efficiency. We will do it if that is what you want, but we will show you both numbers first.

My system is frozen. What do I do right now?
Turn the cooling off at the thermostat, set the fan to ON, and leave it a few hours to thaw. Running a frozen system is what turns a cheap repair into a compressor. Then call — a freeze is a symptom of low airflow or low charge, and both need finding.
Do you charge more for a same-day call in summer?
No. Between June and September dispatch runs around the clock and the rate is the same at midnight as it is at ten in the morning.
What about the refrigerant changeover?
New systems now ship with R-454B rather than R-410A. R-410A is still available for servicing existing equipment and will be for years, but it is getting more expensive. On an older system we will factor that into the repair-or-replace numbers rather than using it as a scare tactic.
